Sergio started his career at BNDES, the Brazilian Development Bank, where his activities where concentrated in the equity arm of the institution.
In 2004 he was appointed for a five-year tenure as Commissioner at the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM). Upon his return to BNDES, he was assignet to the designing and running of the Environment Area of the institution which, among other things, operated the Amazon Fund, a partnership of Brazil and Norway towards the preservation of the Amazon Forest biome.
After leaving Bndes, he became Partner at BRZ Investimentos (a major Brazilian PE firm controlled by GP Investments) and Chief Investment Officer at FAPES, BNDES’s Pension Fund.
He has helped establish Maker IC and participates or has participated in the Board some listed (Eletropaulo, AES Tiete, Copel) and non-listed (CTC, Amata, TGSC) brazilian companies or Foundations (Fundação Flora).
Sergio is an economist with MA in Political Economy from The New School for Social Research / New York.
